The History of the Chevrolet COPO 2022

Before we take a look at the finer details of buying a new Chevrolet COPO 2022, let’s head back in time and take a look at how this vehicle came to be. Towards the end of the 1960s, Chevrolet dealers used the vehicle ordering system to customize cars and create bespoke vehicles. While this was primarily aimed at police cars and truck customization, drag race enthusiasts soon got involved with this process. Vince Piggins was the one who is credited with creating the Camaro Z/28, adding high-performance parts and allowing customers who were passionate about drag racing to enjoy driving one of these vehicles.

In 1968, this was taken one step further by Fred Gibb, a drag racing dealer in Illinois. He used the system to order performance cars with 50 COPO Novas requested with engines that were traditionally found in full-size sedans. He then came up with the 1969 COPO Camaro, with just 69 of these vehicles built. While COPO Camaro production stopped after a year, in 2012, Chevrolet reopened this production line with the fifth-generation Camaro. The program has continued since then, but for most years, only 69 vehicles were assembled, and a lottery system was used to select the lucky owners of the new release Chevrolet COPO 2022.

Chevrolet COPO Launch 2022

Heading into the present day, the new Chevrolet COPO 2022 launches next year. It has a 572 cubic-inch V8, and setting it apart from the previous decade of launches, it will have no production limit. This big-block engine option is available for the first time, and it’s believed the horsepower will be somewhere between 621 to 700 with this option. You also have the option of the naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8 with 470 if you don’t fancy taking the upgrade.

Vehicles will be assembled to meet demand, utalising a first-come-first-serve system. The price of buying a new Chevrolet COPO 2022 starts at $105,000 before the engine upgrade. It uses cast-iron block with aluminum heads, four-bolt main caps and forged aluminum pistons. On top of that, you’ll experience a forged steel crankshaft and forged steel connecting rods.

The COPO Camaro is sold as a Chevrolet Performance part, and it’s important to note that it typically can’t be registered for street use. There are plenty of customization options on offer when buying a new Chevrolet COPO 2022, and drivers will benefit from the unlimited run that we haven’t seen in the past decade.
